Cruz wrote ⁤a letter to Mayorkas questioning the Biden Administration’s ⁤denial of Kennedy’s request for Secret Service protection.

“I ask that you act swiftly to provide this major presidential candidate the protection that his exceptional circumstance so clearly warrants,” Cruz wrote.

Kennedy’s request for Secret Service protection was denied in July, despite the ‌tradition of providing protection to presidential⁤ contenders. Cruz questioned the lengthy process and the denial of protection, especially in light of a recent incident‌ where an armed man impersonating a U.S. marshal⁤ was apprehended at one of Kennedy’s events.

Cruz highlighted the risks outlined ‍in Kennedy’s original request and questioned why previous candidates had received exemptions before the 120-day threshold. He also raised concerns ‌about the Secret Service declaring‌ Kennedy “at risk of assassination” based solely on his family’s pedigree.

“This near ⁤assassination attempt hardly came as⁤ a surprise given ⁢that Mr. Kennedy’s original request for Secret Service protection included‍ a sixty-seven page report from⁢ a⁤ leading private security firm detailing a myriad of unique and well-established safety ⁣risks,” Cruz said in the letter.

Cruz has demanded a response from Mayorkas before the end of the month.
