Democrat Governor’s Push for Additional Charges Against Trump Spectacularly Backfires

Arizona Governor’s Call for Charges Against ⁢Trump Backfires

Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs faced ⁤backlash after expressing support for indicting former President Donald Trump. At an event in Phoenix,⁢ Hobbs was asked if ‍she wanted‌ to see the Arizona attorney general press charges against Trump, similar to what happened in Georgia and Michigan. Hobbs⁢ responded⁤ affirmatively, stating that she believes in holding accountable those⁢ who tried to overturn‍ the 2020 election. However, she later clarified that she had‍ misunderstood the question and believes in ⁣allowing the legal process‌ to proceed independently.

Arizona, a swing state that Trump won in 2016, flipped to President Joe Biden in⁤ 2020 by a narrow⁤ margin. Trump‌ questioned⁤ the ‌integrity of ⁤the election, particularly⁣ in Maricopa County, ‍which was the only county in the state to switch from a Trump win to a ⁢Biden ‍win.⁢ Hobbs, who‌ oversaw the 2020 election as secretary of state, has been criticized by GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake for her comments ⁤about indicting Trump.

“In 2020 @katiehobbs ran a sham election & gave @JoeBiden Arizona. In 2022 Hobbs ran a sham election & ⁤gave herself a promotion. Now, she’s using her illegitimate office to order her illegitimate AG to INDICT @realDonaldTrump & Grassroots Arizonans. If the fake news is wondering THIS is what a⁢ threat to democracy looks like.”

– Kari Lake

Maricopa County experienced election day chaos in⁢ November, with malfunctioning ⁢ballot printers causing long lines and delays. ⁤Republicans, who tend to vote on ⁤election day, were most affected by the chaos. Hobbs‌ won the‌ governor’s race by a narrow margin, while Hamadeh, the GOP⁤ nominee for attorney general, lost by just 511 votes.⁢ Lake’s election challenge of ‌Hobbs’ win is currently on appeal.

Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of Donald Trump,‌ criticized Hobbs’ suggestion of indicting the former president, suggesting that it is part of a ‌pattern to distract from negative news about Joe and Hunter Biden. Trump has ⁤already ‍been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice and Fulton County, Georgia, for questioning the integrity of the 2020 election, as well as by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for alleged⁤ falsification of business records during the⁤ 2016 campaign.

Overall, Hobbs’ call for charges against Trump has backfired, with critics ‍accusing ⁢her ‍of using her position for political ⁢purposes and undermining democracy.
