D.C. Council Overrides Mayor’s Veto, Lightens Sentencing for Carjackings and Gun Crimes

The D.C. Council on Tuesday voted to override Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser’s veto of an update to the district’s criminal code which will reduce sentences for carjackings, robberies, and gun-related felonies in the nation’s capital.

The all-Democratic council voted 12-1 for Bowser who vetoed the “sham” she called “a complete overhaul of our criminal code” That would make it less safe. Some sentences for gun charges were reduced to less than five year in the revised code. Trayon White (D.), a Councilmember, has been accused Jews who control the weather cast their vote in support of the mayor.

D.C. recorded 226 murders in 2021, its highest murder rate for more than 18 years. In the last five years, there has been a spate of carjackings. city council candidates pro-athletes alike.

The council approved the changes to criminal code in November. They will now send it to Congress for approval. If Congress approves it within 60 days, the plan will be sent to President Joe Biden for signature.
