The 13-year-old and 15-year-old teens who were charged for the murder of an Uber Eats driver in Washington D.C. have reportedly been in talks to receive a plea bargain. At a virtual court hearing on Wednesday, the prosecutor told the judge they were expecting to give both attorneys plea bargain offers for the teenagers within the coming days.
The girls face charges of felony murder and armed carjacking for the death of 66-year-old Mohammad Anwar. Both teens have pleaded the juvenile version of “not guilty” after many pushed for them to be charged as adults.

A criminal defense attorney in D.C. claimed juveniles are treated differently in the system under the presumption they can be rehabilitated in ways an adult may not be.
“In this case, there was no firearm,” criminal defense attorney Nikki Lotze said. “It was a stun gun, so that’s one of the considerations. There are lots of factors that need to be considered for the attorney general and judge to make the decision that a person is better charged as an adult than as a juvenile.”
Additionally, the chief of the D.C. Police Department claimed trying the girls as adults would not fall under the city’s current guidelines.
“Obviously, this is a tragic case, and charging this person as an adult does not bring back the lost loved one in this case,” Chief Robert Contee said. “The youth involved are presented to court and the decisions are made based upon District of Colombia guidelines. I think the question now is: The guidelines that we have in place, specifically when talking about carjacking, is it sufficient for our community?”
In the meantime, both girls await the potential plea deal. The 15-year-old has yet to see if she will be tried as an adult.
A GoFundMe was set up for the late Virginia father and Uber-Eats driver to assist his family with funeral costs and services. It has surpassed $1 million and donations have closed.
