Darren Bailey joins race to challenge popular Republican in Illinois, a blue state.
Former Republican State Sen. Darren Bailey Joins Race for House Seat
Former Republican state Sen. Darren Bailey is making a bold move by entering the race for the House seat currently held by Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL). This decision comes after Bailey’s defeat in last year’s gubernatorial race against incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL). Bost, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has held his position for five years. Bailey, a staunch Trump ally, has also earned the endorsement of the former president, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between these two conservatives.
A Declaration at the Bailey Family Farm
On Tuesday, Bailey filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to officially run for the seat. He is expected to make his announcement during a gathering of supporters at the Bailey family farm later in the evening. This confirmation aligns with information obtained by the Washington Examiner on Monday, which revealed Bailey’s plans to run and announce his candidacy imminently.
“I’m 90% sure Darren is running, and if he does, I am confident he will win our district because he genuinely cares about and represents southern Illinois,” a source close to Bailey said. “No one will work or fight harder on the campaign trail or in Congress than Darren Bailey.”
The primary election will likely play a crucial role in determining the ultimate winner of the general election, as Bost secured a victory by a significant margin in the last contest. However, Bailey remains undeterred and is determined to challenge the incumbent Republican.
“I’m confident we’ve got the resources to prepare for any challenge ahead of us and a proven, conservative record of results that position us quite well for the upcoming campaign season,” Bost said in a statement on Monday.
As the race for the House seat heats up, it will be fascinating to witness the clash between Bailey and Bost, both vying for the opportunity to represent their constituents and make a lasting impact in Congress.
