David Crosby’s Former Bandmates Graham Nash, Stephen Stills Pay Tribute to Musician

Graham Nash and Stephen Stills, David Crosby’s former bandsmates, led the tributes. The singer died in his 80s.

Crosby was joined by the musicians to form the folk rock trio. Crosby, Stills & Nash Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, which was formed after Neil Young joined, paid tribute to their former member on Thursday.

“It is with profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed,” Nash made the statement in a statement he shared with Fox News Digital. He also posted it on Instagram.

He continued, “I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years.”

“David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart, and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most. My heart is truly with his wife, Jan, his son, Django, and all of the people he has touched in this world.”

Graham Nash and Stephen Stills honored their late Crosby, Stills & Nash bandmate David Crosby after his death on Thursday. Many other celebrities also paid tribute to the late singer.

Fox News Digital also received a statement from Stills

“I read a quote in this morning’s paper attributed to compose Gustav Mahler that stopped me for a moment: “Death has, on placid cat’s paws, entered the room.”

I shoulda known something was up.

David and I butted heads a lot over time, but they were mostly glancing blows, yet still left us numb skulls..

I was happy to be at peace with him.

He was without question a giant of a musician, and his harmonic sensibilities were nothing short of genius.
The glue that held us together as our vocals soared, like Icarus, towards the sun.

I am deeply saddened at his passing and shall miss him beyond measure.”

The musicians formed the folk rock trio Crosby, Stills & Nash and later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young after Neil Young joined the group.

The official Instagram account of Stills also posted a tribute to the musician on Twitter. “lived a life of deep and enduring gratitude and was an extraordinarily, richly sentient being” 

“His music will live on through us all even as he now sails to his eternal sunset.”

While they were mourning the loss of the late rock icon, Nash was joined by Stills and many other musicians.

Melissa Etheridge shared a throwback picture of herself and Crosby, along with a heartfelt message.

“I am grieving the loss of my friend and Bailey’s biological father, David. He gave me the gift of family. I will forever be grateful to him, Django, and Jan. His music and legacy will inspire many generations to come. A true treasure,” Etheridge wrote an Instagram post

Brian Wilson, founder of Beach Boys, shared a photo with Crosby via Twitter. “I don’t know what to say other than I’m heartbroken to hear about David Crosby.” 

“David was an unbelievable talent – such a great singer and songwriter. And a wonderful person. I just am at a loss for words. Love & Mercy to David’s family and friends. Love, Brian”

Musician Jason Isabell tweeted, “Grateful for the time we had with David Crosby. We’ll miss him a lot.”

The official Twitter account of The Doors shared a black-and-white photo of Crosby and wrote, “The world has lost yet another ethereal fixture of the ‘60s peace and love movement; a legend within his own right, and every group he was a part of. 

Coming up in the same era as The Doors, David Crosby had the voice and songwriting abilities that made him completely unique…” The statement was added.

Roseanne Cash, singer and songwriter, shared her sorrow on Crosby’s passing via a Twitter post. 

Actress Christina Applegate Crosby shared a black-and-white photo with her friend and she described how they planned to honor his life and mourn his death.

Billy Corgan, frontman for Smashing Pumpkins, posted a photo and wrote about the rocker. “RIP David Crosby.”

Sebastian Bach, an ex-frontman for Skid Row, wrote. “As much as I loved his music I loved his thoughts on Twitter as well.” Crosby was a prolific Twitter user. He was tweeting and responding to tweets just days before his death.

Crosby’s Twitter joke was noticed by many of his followers. Crosby quoted a Twitter user who had posted a screenshot of what they Googled after they did. “can we go to heaven with tattoos.” The Twitter user wrote: “not looking good.”

“I heard the place is overrated….cloudy,” quipped Crosby.

Jan Dance, Crosby’s widow, made a statement to Variety on Thursday, confirmating his death.

“It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django,” This statement is read in part. 

Crosby, a member of The Byrds which he co-founded back in 1964, was the first to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Crosby, Stills & Nash was his second induction.

Crosby received a liver transplant after years of drug abuse. He was also able to survive diabetes, hepatitis C infection and heart surgery in the 70s. Crosby wed Dance in 1987.

Crosby’s five children are his survivors. His son, whom he shared via the sperm donation process with Etheridge and Beckett Cypher died following an accident. opioid addiction in 2020 At 21.
