Gun control activist David Hogg got trolled across social media after announcing that he would consider a run to become the vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

“I’m considering it because I think that, one, obviously, I think we need a new generation in the DNC. If this election has taught us nothing else, I think we need an intergenerational coalition as a party,” Hogg said in a Thursday CNN interview.

Hogg’s tease toward running for one of the top DNC positions was immediately met with criticism and jokes from conservatives on X.

“This the guy who stood on the bodies of his dead classmates to be famous, right?” one post read.

“I strongly support David Hogg for chairman of the Democrat National Committee,” conservative political commentator Michael Knowles wrote. “Please let me know where to send a campaign donation and if there is any maximum contribution limit.”

“I support David Hogg for DNC Chair,” another user posted. “Would be great for MAGA that more Democrat leadership positions get filled by incompetent leftists!”

“This is what happens when everyone gets a participation trophy!” one commenter said.

The March For Our Lives founder spent the last two years traveling the nation trying to get young people elected, and all this door-knocking across swing states has led him to believe that Democrats “would rather live in a comfortable delusion than an uncomfortable reality,” he told CNN.

“I think what the party needs to do is open its eyes and take its fingers out of its ears,” Hogg, 24, said. “We can just surround ourselves with people that agree with us a lot of the time, in terms of the party leadership and also within the party itself, and think that’s just who we need to be talking to constantly instead of listening to people who don’t agree with us.”

Democrats are falling victim to a “condescending tone,” which is causing voters to see them as “out of touch” elitists, and failing to help everyday citizens see themselves represented in office, he said.

“I think Tim Walz is actually a great example of this, of running as a teacher and gaining all the experience that he had to massively outperform, even in a Trump-held district,” Hogg said. “We need everyday people, from teachers to doctors to everybody in between, to start running for office and help changing the future of this party and the face of this party as well.”
