Mike Pence deems David Weiss’ appointment as special counsel for Hunter Biden investigation fitting.
Former Vice President Mike Pence Supports Appointment of Special Counsel in Hunter Biden Investigation
Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his belief that the appointment of David Weiss as special counsel in the investigation into Hunter Biden is “appropriate.” In an interview with Chuck Todd on NBC News’s Meet the Press, Pence highlighted the need for equal treatment under the law and the importance of restoring public confidence in the Justice Department.
Continued Congressional Investigation
Pence welcomed the appointment of a special counsel, emphasizing that it is necessary when the attorney general may have a potential conflict of interest. However, he also expressed confidence in the ongoing work of Congress, particularly House Republicans, in uncovering the facts surrounding the allegations against the Bidens.
Pence stressed the American people’s right to know whether President Joe Biden’s family financially benefited from foreign companies, which is the focal point of the GOP’s investigation into the alleged criminal scheme involving the Bidens. He expressed hope that special counsel Weiss would fulfill his duties impartially, while also acknowledging the dedication of Congressman Jim Jordan, Congressman Comer, and others in serving the American people.
Claims of Financial Gain and Appointment of Special Counsel
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and other Republican leaders have asserted that Hunter Biden leveraged his father’s position to secure millions of dollars from foreign oligarchs. These claims have prompted further scrutiny and investigation.
Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed David Weiss, the United States Attorney for Delaware, as special counsel. Weiss, who was appointed during the Trump administration, will oversee the investigation. The appointment followed the collapse of the original plea deal between Hunter Biden and DOJ prosecutors, which is now being investigated by the House Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means Committees.
While some Republican senators, such as Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, have expressed concerns and reservations about Weiss’s appointment, it serves as a forceful indication that no significant changes have been made within the Justice Department.
