The Washington, D.C., Metro system has begun decorating rail cars with American flag decals.
This comes as the capital city expects an influx of traffic, with President Donald Trump issuing an executive order requiring federal employees to report to the office. As a result, the Metro is set to exceed 1 million daily passengers on its rails and buses.
The addition of American flags also follows the recent dismantling of Black Lives Matter Plaza, which Mayor Muriel Bowser said will be reimagined to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday next year.
“America’s Metro System is getting a new look!” the Metro system wrote on X. “We’ve started the process to install American flag decals on rail cars throughout the system – much like the decals that already adorn every Metrobus. It’s our way of showing how proud we are to serve the National Capital Region!”
The decals, about the size of a sheet of printer paper, are on the railcars’ exterior walls. A picture of the decal posted to Metro’s X account received over 1,000 likes but was met with mixed reactions.
