Dean Phillips dismisses No Labels campaign, vows to succeed as a Democrat
Rep. Dean Phillips Downplays Possible 2024 Bid with No Labels
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) dismissed the idea of a 2024 bid with the centrist organization No Labels, emphasizing his commitment to the Democratic party. When asked about the possibility of joining their ticket, Phillips firmly stated, ”I’m a Democrat — I have been a lifelong Democrat.”
During an interview with host Brian Kilmeade, Phillips reiterated his allegiance to the Democratic party, declaring, “I’m a Democrat. I’m going to run as a Democrat, and I’m going to win as a Democrat.”
Speculation arose over the weekend regarding Phillips’ potential involvement with No Labels, as he did not outright reject the idea. However, Phillips defended the organization against accusations that it would act as a spoiler to elect former President Donald Trump.
“If they put someone at the top of the ticket who could actually drive votes from Donald Trump, every Democrat in the United States of America should be celebrating it. They haven’t made that determination,” he told the New York Times.
Regarding his potential participation, Phillips clarified that he would only consider joining the group’s ticket “in the event of a Joe Biden-Donald Trump rematch that shows Joe Biden is almost certain to lose.”
