To MSNBC: Border Crisis Matters – Fentanyl Took My Daughter
My only daughter is gone. I have endured the life-altering agony of her loss every single day for the past nine years, along with the families of hundreds of thousands of other victims of this illicit fentanyl crisis. Our loved ones were deceived and poisoned to death by fake pills and contaminated recreational drugs.
The southern border remains the undeniable main entry point for illicit fentanyl into the United States, as confirmed by every investigative agency. West Virginia has consistently ranked among the top five states for illicit fentanyl injuries and deaths since China and Mexico’s drug cartels launched their open drug warfare campaign against the U.S. Virginia is not far behind.
In the past five years, fentanyl overdose deaths in the United States have skyrocketed. Deaths linked to the potent synthetic opioid fentanyl surged 279 percent from 2016 to 2021. Yet, MSNBC anchors find the crisis at our border amusing.
On Super Tuesday, Jen Psaki, Joy Reid, and Rachel Maddow shared a laugh at the notion that voters in Virginia would prioritize the border and immigration.
What gives MSNBC the right to allow their staff or guests to openly mock victims and families of this crisis? Why do they dismiss our concerns about national security conditions that contributed to the deaths, illnesses, and injuries of our loved ones? How is it acceptable to deepen the wounds of those who have already suffered so much?
Illicit fentanyl analogs are not the same as the prescription-grade fentanyl used clinically. These new forms are chemically altered to increase potency and duration. None of the illicit fentanyl analogs on the street are safe for human use due to their high lethality.
We are burying infants, children, teens, and even non-drug users who have accidentally ingested or come into contact with illicit fentanyl. Millions of Americans have been poisoned and killed by criminal acts of deception, with illicit fentanyl hidden in commonly used drugs. Counterfeit pills that mimic pharmaceutical products have also caused widespread poisoning.
The majority of victims, both alive and deceased, were unaware that they were consuming illicit fentanyl. They did not “overdose,” they were poisoned. When someone hides or disguises a harmful substance without the knowledge or consent of another person, it is poisoning by definition.
Anyone who has experienced the loss of a child or loved one to this illicit fentanyl crisis knows that our southern border is the primary entry point for this deadly drug. It is present in every city, county, and state, all entering our country through the same route.
Hundreds of thousands of children have been left orphaned by fentanyl-related deaths, and millions of grieving family members are struggling to cope with the loss of their loved ones. The pain is so unbearable that some parents have taken their own lives.
As political pundits continue to insult and mock the victims and families affected by this crisis, I want to remind them of two crucial things: We are a significant part of MSNBC’s potential audience, and we vote.
This reprehensible behavior has made it impossible for me, a former lifelong Democrat, to support the Democratic Party any longer as long as it advocates for open borders.
The victims and grieving families deserve better than this. You have consistently failed to show even the most basic levels of human compassion. That is unforgivable.

How can media outlets like MSNBC dismiss the concerns about national security conditions that contribute to fentanyl-related deaths and injuries?
On and violence. This is not something to laugh about or dismiss as inconsequential.
The illicit fentanyl crisis is a devastating reality that has taken countless lives across the United States. Families like mine have had to endure the unbearable pain of losing a loved one to this deadly drug. And yet, some media outlets, like MSNBC, seem to find it amusing.
On Super Tuesday, MSNBC anchors Jen Psaki, Joy Reid, and Rachel Maddow shared a laugh at the idea that voters in Virginia would prioritize the border and immigration. They made light of the very real concerns and struggles of families like mine who have been directly affected by the influx of fentanyl across our southern border.
But what gives MSNBC the right to mock victims and families of this crisis? Why do they dismiss our concerns about the national security conditions that have contributed to the deaths, illnesses, and injuries of our loved ones? How is it acceptable to further deepen the wounds of those who have already suffered so much?
Illicit fentanyl analogs are not the same as the prescription-grade fentanyl used clinically. These new forms of fentanyl are chemically altered to increase potency and duration, making them even more dangerous. None of the illicit fentanyl analogs found on the street are safe for human use due to their high lethality.
The southern border remains the primary entry point for illicit fentanyl into the United States, as confirmed by various investigative agencies. States like West Virginia have consistently ranked among the top five for fentanyl-related injuries and deaths. The drug cartels in China and Mexico have launched an open drug warfare campaign against the U.S., and the consequences are devastating.
In the past five years alone, fentanyl overdose deaths in the United States have skyrocketed. Deaths linked to this potent synthetic opioid have surged 279 percent from 2016 to 2021. This is a crisis of immense proportions, and it demands serious attention and action.
As families continue to grieve and bear the weight of their loss, it is crucial that media outlets like MSNBC show respect and empathy for the victims and their families. Mocking or trivializing the issue only serves to perpetuate the pain and further marginalize those who have been directly affected.
We need a collective effort to address the illicit fentanyl crisis, secure our borders, and disrupt the drug cartels’ operations. Governments at all levels, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, and communities must work together to prevent further loss of life and protect our citizens.
As a grieving parent, I implore MSNBC and all media outlets to reconsider their approach to covering this issue. Let us not forget the real faces behind the statistics - the daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, and friends who have been taken from us far too soon. It is time to treat this crisis with the seriousness and compassion it deserves.
