The Washington Examiner’s Gabe Kaminsky discussed the importance of next week’s presidential debate, saying with the microphones turned off there will be a chance for the candidates to have their own moments to shine.

“This debate is going to be an opportunity for both of these candidates to have stand-alone moments,” Kaminsky said on Fox News at Night on Friday.

In a discussion about who will benefit the most from the microphone rule, which President Joe Biden’s campaign forced when agreeing to the debates, Kaminsky said Biden has a lot to prove.

“[The campaign is] dealing here with a historically unpopular president who is constantly under fire on social media for sort of clips that have been embarrassing the White House, and the White House has pushed back really heavily on these. And so, look, I think this, it’s going to be really critical here, and it’s going to be a major window into what we’re going to see.”

As for the importance of such an early debate, Kaminsky disagreed with Van Jones, who was a guest earlier on the show, and said the debate would decide the election.

“This is not the election,” Kaminsky said. “I don’t think this is make or break moment, I think that this is a very big moment.”
