Decapitated Skeletons Found At Ancient Burial Site

An ancient burial Oxford discovered an area with headless skeletons. archeologists Settlement in the United Kingdom Over the weekend 

Archeologists said that the skeletons of eleven people were found at Wintringham, at the site of an old Roman settlement. It dates back to the third century A.D. The human skeletal remains contained eleven decapitated skulls. Six additional skeletons also were discovered.

“These results add greatly to our understanding of the local landscape’s history which we can now share with local communities,” said Patrick Moan, Oxford Archeology’s managing director, is responsible for the dig. 

Additional Roman artifacts were also discovered, including a pottery potter, coins, pottery and jewelry as well as tools for grinding grain. 

Archaeologists found evidence of 40 roundhouses, farming activities and an Iron Age settlement in the area. According to the BBC, the area will soon be developed as housing after the archaeological work is completed. 

The project will be featured in “Digging for Britain,” A British television program that focuses on historic finds in the country. 

Similar burials have been found in the past. Experts suggest that the decapitated skulls may be belonging to criminals or outcasts. However, beheading was an option. “normal, albeit marginal, burial rite.”
