Del Rio Illegal Immigrants Revolt Against US Agents in Bus Takeover

Illegal immigrants who were camped out under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas, revolted against customs agents and took control of a federally contracted bus.

The Washington Examiner reported that Haitian migrants in custody hijacked the bus on Monday as it was en route from Del Rio to San Antonio. They then escaped custody.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Customs and Border Protection agency did not respond to the Examiner‘s requests for comment, though ICE confirmed to Local 23 news that “several individuals attempted to flee the bus and were able to escape for some time.”

Law enforcement officials said federal agents eventually recaptured the escapees.

Roughly 14,500 immigrants, a majority of whom are Haitian, sheltered under a Del Rio bridge as of Monday. President Joe Biden’s plan to expel the immigrants through a Trump-era rule has led to severe pushback from fellow Democrats, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) saying Tuesday that the expulsions are “hateful and xenophobic.”
