In just a matter of weeks, the daily number of people crossing into El Paso has skyrocketed from 350-400 to over 2,000.
Collaborating with the U.S. Border Patrol, the city has managed to provide shelter for approximately 6,500 individuals in the past 10 days, with around two-thirds being single men, 32 percent being families, and only 2 percent being unaccompanied children.
“It’s crucial to recognize that we have a broken immigration system,” Mayor Leeser emphasized. “We keep experiencing the same issues over and over again.”
