The Shocking Case of the Democrat Ex-Mayor Charged with Child Pornography
In a stunning turn of events, the former mayor of College Park, Maryland, Patrick Wojahn, has pleaded guilty to a staggering 140 counts related to child pornography possession and distribution. As part of the deal, Wojahn has been sentenced to serve 30 years in prison.
According to a press release from Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, Wojahn pleaded guilty to 60 counts of distribution of child pornography, 40 counts of possession of child pornography, and 40 counts of possession of child pornography with the intention to distribute.
State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy expressed her horror at the case, stating, “This is a horrific case. I am truly pleased that Mr. Wojahn has pleaded guilty and accepted responsibility for his actions and these horrendous crimes.” Braveboy also emphasized the betrayal of trust, saying, “As a former elected official, the College Park community put its faith and support in him to serve each resident and their best interests. Instead, he let them down in a most disgraceful way.”
The statement from Braveboy’s office highlighted the vulnerability of children and the importance of their protection, stating, “Our children are both precious and vulnerable, deserving of the utmost protection. The tragedy of them being preyed upon in cases like this cannot be understated.” She reassured families in Prince George’s County that every effort would be made to ensure their safety and well-being.
Wojahn, who served as a city council member for eight years before becoming mayor, resigned from his position in March prior to his arrest. In his resignation letter, he mentioned an ongoing police investigation and the need to address his own mental health.
The investigation into Wojahn began when the Prince George’s Police Department (PGPD) received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a social media account in the county involved in the distribution of child pornography. Through their investigation, PGPD detectives discovered that the account belonged to Wojahn, leading to a search warrant being executed at his home. Multiple devices were seized, including cell phones, a storage device, a tablet, and a computer. Wojahn’s Kik account, where the child porn videos were found, used the handle “skippy_md.”
Initially, Wojahn faced charges of possession and distribution of child exploitative material. His official sentencing is scheduled for November 20.
