Senator Dianne Feinstein was a champion for Gun Violence Prevention that broke barriers at all levels of government. We wouldn’t have had an assault weapons ban if it wasn’t for Senator Feinstein and due to her tireless work, we will win it back. May her memory be a blessing. https://t.co/4hBdgkYcV6

Feinstein made history as the first woman elected to represent California in the Senate. She served as the mayor of San Francisco before being elected to the upper chamber in 1992. Feinstein had announced that she would not seek another term next fall and was set to retire in January 2025.
Born on June 22, 1933, in San Francisco, Feinstein had faced health issues earlier this year but had chosen not to resign despite calls for her to do so. California Governor Gavin Newsom had previously pledged to appoint a black woman to replace her if she retired early.
Throughout her career, Feinstein was known for her staunch opposition to gun rights and her support of abortion. She was also widowed last year when her third husband, Richard Blum, passed away at the age of 86.
