Democratic super PAC airs ad in Pennsylvania using Trump clips to urge voters not to vote early – Washington Examiner

A Democratic super PAC called Pennsylvania Values released an advertisement pretending to support⁣ former President Donald Trump. The ad used ‍his past statements criticizing mail-in voting, aiming to dissuade his supporters from voting early. It presented Trump’s negative⁣ views on mail-in ballots, highlighting his claim that such voting is “totally corrupt,” and called ‍on supporters to oppose mail-in voting. Despite appearing to ⁢be pro-Trump, the ad did ⁤not ‍reveal that it was ⁤actually funded by a left-wing group, nor did‍ it indicate any opposition to Trump. The true nature of‍ the ad, paid ‌for by Pennsylvania Values, was only disclosed ‍at the end, without specifying its left-wing ⁢affiliation. The tactic⁣ has been criticized by some groups, ‍labeling it as an attempt to mislead voters and suppress Republican turnout.

The Pennsylvania Values super PAC began airing the ad posing as pro-Trump, using clips from the 2020 election of him denouncing mail-in voting to deter his supporters from voting early.

“MAGA Patriots Listen To Our President!” the ad began.

Full spot here. The message is… not subtle. But without a firm grasp of the subtext you’d have no idea this was coming from the left. pic.twitter.com/dnG400MG16

It then featured several clips of Trump questioning the veracity of some mail-in ballots, including one in which he called mail-in voting “totally corrupt.”

“Stand strong with PRESIDENT TRUMP AGAINST MAIL-IN VOTING!” it concluded.

While it was disclosed at the end that the ad was paid for by Pennsylvania Values, at no point in the ad did it disclose it was a left-wing super PAC or give any indication it was opposed to Trump.

“Pennsylvania Values is a Left-wing super PAC dedicated to silencing conservative voices and keeping Republican voters home, no matter the tactics,” the Sentinel Action Fund, Republican State Leadership Committee, and Keystone Renewal PAC said in a joint statement obtained by the Federalist.

“To use the Left’s terminology, this new ad buy is ‘disinformation,’ completely mischaracterizing conservatives’ views of early voting,” it added.

Since 2020, Trump has changed his tune on early and mail-in voting, saying, “ABSENTEE VOTING, EARLY VOTING, AND ELECTION DAY VOTING ARE ALL GOOD OPTIONS,” in an April Truth Social post.

The deceptive tactic is similar to the case of Douglass Mackey, who created memes in 2016 telling voters they could vote by text.

Mackey, 33, better known by his online handle Ricky Vaughn, was found guilty in March 2023 of conspiracy against rights in a Brooklyn court for his creation and sharing of memes. Prosecutors argued the memes were intended to “deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote.” He was sentenced to seven months in prison.

The prosecution of Mackey drew harsh criticism from conservatives, who pointed to similar tactics used by left-wing figures, with no prosecution.
