Democrat’s approval of Biden hits all-time low as White House backs Israel.
President Biden’s Approval Rating Hits Record Low Among Democrats
In a recent Gallup poll, President Joe Biden’s approval rating among Democrats reached a new low, signaling a significant drop in support. Analysts attribute this decline to his unwavering backing of Israel following the recent terrorist attacks by Hamas.
The poll, released on Thursday, reveals that approximately 75% of Democrat respondents approve of Biden’s presidency, marking an 11-point decrease from the previous month. Independents also showed a decline of 4 points since September, with only around 35% expressing approval for the president.
On the other hand, Republican respondents remained unchanged in their assessment of Biden’s leadership, with a mere 5% approval rating. Overall, Biden’s approval rating dropped to 37%, a 4-point decrease from the previous poll.
Megan Brenan, a Gallup research consultant, emphasized that the president’s strong and immediate support for Israel has resulted in Democrats’ harshest evaluation of him since taking office. This sentiment aligns with Biden’s personal low approval rating.
The Impact of Biden’s Stance on Israel
“The Israeli-Palestinian conflict comes at a time when Americans remain pessimistic about the economy, the Biden administration is struggling to deal with increasing numbers of migrants attempting to enter the country, and debate continues about how much aid to provide to Ukraine in its war with Russia,” Brenan wrote. “As events in the Middle East continue to unfold and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens, Biden’s guidance on Israel could affect not only the outcome of the war but also how he is viewed at home.”
Gallup conducted the poll by surveying 1,009 respondents, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points. The results were published two weeks after Hamas launched a deadly terrorist attack on Israel, resulting in over 1,400 deaths, 5,200+ injuries, and more than 200 people being kidnapped.
Despite the decline in approval among Democrats, Biden’s stance on Israel aligns with approximately 68% of U.S. citizens who still largely support the country, according to the poll.
In a show of bipartisanship, the GOP-led House, under the leadership of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), overwhelmingly passed a resolution in support of Israel’s war on Hamas. The resolution received a 412-10 vote, with nine Democrats, including members of the leftist “Squad,” voting against it.
Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), the sole Palestinian-American member of Congress, criticized the resolution, stating that it fails to address the root causes of the violence and perpetuates failed policies. Tlaib and other leftist members called for the passage of their “Ceasefire Now Resolution” instead.
Lydia Saad, the director of U.S. social research at Gallup, reportedly highlighted that despite changing views among Democrats and independents, a majority of all generational and party groups still hold a favorable view of Israel compared to the Palestinian Authority.
Looking Ahead
“This suggests that while rank-and-file Democrats may want Palestinians’ needs addressed, they will want solutions that respect Israel’s needs as well,” Saad added, according to the National Review.
Biden’s current approval rating is comparable to former presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama, who both had approval ratings around 40% during the 11th quarter of their respective terms in the White House.

How might the decline in Biden’s approval rating among independent voters impact the Democratic Party in future elections
Is perceived by his own party.”
The poll results indicate that Democrats are divided when it comes to Biden’s support for Israel. While some Democrats view his unwavering backing as necessary to ensure the safety and security of the Israeli people, others believe it is an unjust response that disregards the suffering of Palestinians in the conflict. This division within the party has contributed to the decline in Biden’s approval rating among Democrats.
Furthermore, the recent surge in violence between Israel and Hamas has drawn international attention and sparked debates about the appropriate response from world leaders. Biden’s decision to support Israel without condemning the Israeli government’s actions has faced criticism, particularly from progressive Democrats who believe in taking a more balanced approach to the conflict. As a result, his approval rating among Democrats has suffered.
Additionally, Biden’s stance on Israel has also created tension within the party’s progressive wing, which has been growing in influence in recent years. Progressive lawmakers and activists have publicly voiced their disappointment with Biden’s handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, further contributing to the decline in his approval rating among Democrats.
It is worth noting that while Biden’s approval rating has declined among Democrats, it remains relatively high compared to his predecessor, Donald Trump, who consistently had approval ratings below 10% among Democrats throughout his presidency. Nevertheless, the decline in support, even among his own party, is a concerning trend for the Biden administration.
Going forward, Biden will need to navigate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict carefully, considering the divergent opinions within his own party. Balancing the safety and security of Israel with the concerns and empathy for the Palestinian people will be a significant challenge for the administration.
Furthermore, the decline in Biden’s approval rating among independent voters is also something to watch closely. Independent voters often play a crucial role in determining election outcomes, and their dwindling support could have implications for the Democratic Party in future elections.
Overall, President Biden’s approval rating hitting a record low among Democrats reflects the growing discontent within the party over his unwavering support for Israel. As the conflict continues and the human toll rises, it remains to be seen how Biden will navigate the challenges and rebuild support within his own party.
