Democrats Are Coming For … Everything: Gas Stoves, Light Bulbs, And Now Gas Stations
President Joe Biden is trying to tackle climate change by implementing several measures, including getting rid of gas stoves and incandescent light bulbs. The U.S. Energy Department is going ahead with a ban on the manufacture and retail sale of most incandescent light bulbs from August 1. However, consumer groups and free-market advocates have opposed the ban, citing the high cost of LED light bulbs, which are touted to be more energy-efficient. On the other hand, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has denied the rumors of the Biden administration restricting or banning the use of gas stoves in households. Nevertheless, Granholm’s Department of Energy proposed new regulations governing home energy consumption, seeking to reduce the use of gas stoves in homes.
Democrats in a Colorado city have also put an end to gas stations. Boulder has decided to cap the number of gas stations in the area, limiting them to six stations for its 21,000 residents, in an effort to tackle climate change. Council member Maxine Most believes it is a good step towards decarbonizing and encouraging low-carbon energy options for transportation.
It is unclear what Democrats will regulate next, but these new regulations have certainly raised concerns among several stakeholders.
