Democrats lash out at James Comer for targeting Biden but not Trump family
Democrats are criticizing House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) for extensively probing into the Biden family’s business dealings, while staying silent when it comes to President Donald Trump and his family.
The Democratic National Committee has raised “serious concerns about his own credibility” in a recent New York Times profile on Comer. The Democrats’ spokesperson, Elena Kuhn, has accused Comer of running “political interference” for Trump and his family.
Comer’s comments also suggested that investigating former first son-in-law Jared Kushner’s overseas business dealings was “politically unsustainable.” Comer’s office has vehemently scrutinized Hunter Biden, including subpoenaing bank records of his associates and going through a tranche of records about his business affairs.
Comer dropped the Democratic-led inquiry into how Kushner’s Affinity Partners investment firm had garnered a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund shortly after the Trump administration concluded. He also halted an examination into whether Donald Trump improperly used his presidency to add to his fortune via foreign governments spending money at his properties.
Democrats have accused Comer of going after the Bidens while avoiding Trump’s family. Ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) urged Comer to investigate the billions of dollars received by Jared Kushner from the Saudi government if he is genuinely interested in “national security implications of a President’s or Vice President’s immediate family members receiving millions of dollars from foreign nationals.”
Last month, Raskin requested Kushner to produce documents sought by the committee in June 2022.
The Washington Examiner contacted Comer’s spokesperson but did not receive a comment.
