Dems Hit Over Anti-Catholic Bigotry In Western Ad Blitz

A conservative super PAC, Frontiers of Freedom Action (FFA), has initiated an ad campaign targeting Democratic lawmakers in key Senate⁤ races across⁢ Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico, focusing on their alleged anti-Catholic ‍stances. The campaign highlights the records of Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Sen. Jackie Rosen (D-Nev.), and Sen. ⁢Martin Heinrich‍ (D-N.M.), asserting that Gallego is particularly vulnerable ‌due to his far-left views. The ads, aired in both English ⁣and Spanish, criticize these lawmakers’ support for Health and Human Services‌ Secretary Xavier Becerra, who ‌has been associated with coercive actions against⁣ religious organizations and controversial policies regarding transgender healthcare.

Additionally, the ads emphasize the lawmakers’ absence‌ during ‍significant news regarding the FBI’s classification of traditional Catholics as domestic terrorists and their ⁣opposition to legislation ‍that protects‌ abortion survivors. The campaign arrives just ⁣two months before ⁣the election, aiming‌ to raise awareness among Hispanic voters about the‌ Democratic lawmakers’ leftist tendencies and potentially anti-Catholic positions, particularly ⁢as Republicans strive to regain control of the Senate. While former President Trump shows strong performance among voters in Arizona and Nevada, the Republican Senate candidates ⁢are‌ trailing behind, suggesting a challenging political landscape as the elections approach.

A conservative super PAC launched a new ad campaign Thursday targeting Democrat lawmakers in western Senate races over their anti-Catholic records.

The group, Frontiers of Freedom Action (FFA), unveiled the two-minute ads on local stations in Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico highlighting the anti-Catholic records of Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., Sen. Jackie Rosen, D-Nev., and Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M.

“Gallego is particularly vulnerable because of his far-left record. He is unsuitable for Arizona — but so too are Martin Heinrich in New Mexico and Jackie Rosen in Nevada,” said the PAC president, George Landrith. “When Hispanic voters — especially Hispanics who attend Catholic Mass — come to learn about their senator’s record of anti-Catholic bigotry, they are going to be stunned.”

The ads have been produced in both English and Spanish. Each ad pointed out the Democrats’ support for Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, who sought to coerce the Little Sisters of the Poor into providing contraception. As secretary, Becerra also threatened the federal funding of hospitals which refused to offer transgender surgeries. Rosen and Heinrich both voted to confirm Becerra, whose nomination passed three years ago by a single vote.

The ads went on to highlight lawmakers’ absence when the news broke of the FBI targeting traditional Catholics as domestic terrorists.

“Republicans too often forget that even though many Hispanic voters are moving towards Trump, they are likely to vote for incumbent members of Congress just because they know their names,” Landrith said. “But they need to be shocked into realizing just how far left-wing they are — and particularly how anti-Catholic they are.”

On abortion, the ads say the three lawmakers opposed a law protecting newborn abortion survivors. Gallego voted as recently as last year to reject the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act while Rosen and Heinrich voted against the legislation in 2019 and 2020.

The ads arrive just two months before Election Day when Republicans hope to reclaim the upper chamber after four years under a razor-thin minority. Democrats have run the Senate with just a single-seat majority this Congress, which led to Vice President Kamala Harris becoming a record-breaking tie breaker last December. As the race stands, however, former President Donald Trump is outperforming Republican Senate candidates in Arizona and Nevada.

In Arizona, Trump leads Harris by a single point in the RealClearPolitics aggregate of surveys, while Gallego leads former Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake by more than 7 points.

In Nevada, Trump is only down by less than half a point while the Republican Senate candidate, Sam Brown, is down by more than 10.

New Mexico is the only state where the GOP Senate hopeful is running ahead of the former president in the RealClear aggregate, though only one major poll has been conducted in the state on the presidential race. The incumbent vice president led The Hill/Emerson poll by 10 points, while the Republican, Nella Domenici, trails Heinrich by more than 9.
