Dems Love Censorship Because They Know They’d Lose Without It

In President Joe Biden’s last address to the nation,he expressed ⁣concern over Big Tech’s abandonment of fact-checking and‍ emphasized the need to hold social ‍media platforms accountable ⁤to protect democracy and families ‍from misinformation and abuse of ‍power. Critics argue⁣ that the Biden administration’s real concern lies in silencing⁢ dissenting voices ‌that challenge its narratives, rather than addressing genuine abuses of power. The Democratic Party is said to rely on censorship because they fear that their ideas may not ⁤hold up against rigorous debate.

The summary mentions the 2024 election results, where Democrats lost despite attempts to influence voter turnout ⁤through financial incentives. Critics claim that had there been less censorship of conservative viewpoints, the election outcome could have varied considerably.

Furthermore, the article discusses the collaboration between⁢ federal officials, Big Tech, and legacy media in what is termed the “censorship-industrial complex.” This coalition⁤ allegedly aimed to ⁣suppress‍ information that⁢ contradicted the government‍ or⁢ favored narratives, particularly around issues like Covid-19, election integrity, and social policies. This censorship is depicted as stifling legitimate criticism and‍ undermining free speech.

elon‌ Musk’s acquisition of Twitter (now X) marked a pivotal shift as he worked to dismantle this censorship apparatus, aiming to restore free speech⁢ on the platform, ⁢thus challenging the established order ‍of controlling public discourse.

When President Joe Biden spoke to the nation for the final time, he gave plenty of platitudes — but also scolded Big Tech for eliminating its so-called “fact-checkers.”

“Social media is giving up on fact-checking. The truth is smothered by lies, told for power and for profit,” Biden said. “We must hold the social platforms accountable to protect our children, our families, and our very democracy from the abuse of power.”

Apparently Biden — or likely, his Democrat handlers — are most concerned about “abuse of power” coming from average people who contradict the regime’s favored narratives online. Meanwhile, they have shown actual enthusiasm for abuses of power, like weaponizing the Department of Justice, flooding illegals into the nation, and using Biden’s beloved “fact-checkers” to police speech online.

Democrats need censorship because their ideas cannot win on their own merits. From supporting dictatorial Covid mandates to racist “antiracism” to transgender mutilation of children, these positions are untenable on their own. During the Biden presidency, the situation was even worse, as platitudes replaced any practical policy, and America’s absentee president left White House staffers to execute this weak approach.

November’s election proved this. Despite Democrats’ best efforts using “Bidenbucks” — or later, “KamalaCash” — to co-opt federal agencies as leftist “get out the vote” machines, they lost the presidential bid by a landslide. But former President Donald Trump’s victory may have been more difficult had leftists maintained their stranglehold on public discourse. If it had been eliminated entirely, Trump’s margin of victory could have been even larger.

As The Federalist’s Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway noted on X, “Without ‘fact’ ‘checkers’ and other censorship tools, Democrats would win many fewer victories.”

Without “fact” “checkers” and other censorship tools, Democrats would win many fewer victories. That’s why he focused on his love of the censorship regime in his speech. Democrats NEED censorship to win debates and votes. https://t.co/HRrk1cjIIF

Shaping the Narrative

Federal officials, Big Tech, and legacy media colluded to form the censorship-industrial complex. The federal government has a massive speech enforcement apparatus, much of which involves its censorship hub — the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, under the Department of Homeland Security. CISA worked with “Zuckbucks” groups in 2020 and targeted election speech it deemed “mis-, dis-, and malinformation.”

By 2020, both Twitter (now X) and Facebook (now Meta) had adopted “fact-checking” from supposed experts — many of whom acted as government-funded left-wing activists. As revealed in the Twitter Files and Facebook Files, senior federal officials worked with Big Tech corporations to suppress inconvenient content like the Hunter Biden laptop story. While social media censored conservatives, legacy media reliably parroted Democrat talking points.

For the outlets that refuse to echo regime talking points — decrying Covid mandates, covering DEI racism in universities, and exposing horrific transgender surgeries on children — the government-censorship complex destroyed their reach.

The Global Engagement Center, a “subagency” of the State Department, helped develop censorship tools for Big Tech corporations, as The Federalist previously reported. Through this program, the State Department funded the “Global Disinformation Index” — which targets conservative news sites, including The Federalist, in an effort to defund them. The Federalist, The Daily Wire, and the state of Texas sued in 2023 for First Amendment violations.

Losing Control?

When Elon Musk bought Twitter and renamed it X in 2022, he freed the platform from the federal information commissars censoring Americans’ speech. This struck a blow to the censorship-industrial complex. Since then, leftists have weaponized federal agencies like the Federal Trade Commission against Musk.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also apparently defected from the censorship-industrial complex. The billionaire sent $400 million in “Zuckbucks” through leftist nonprofits to influence local election agencies in 2020, boosting Democrat turnout. But he began changing his tune after the first assassination attempt on Trump and more recently rebranded himself as a personality friendly to free speech. While the company refused to answer The Federalist’s questions on the record, Meta did away with its fact-checking program last week, purportedly shifting away from its role as a government enforcer that censored The Federalist numerous times. Meta’s policy change apparently drew Biden’s ire in his farewell address, spurring his comments about fact-checking.

In addition, the government-funded Global Engagement Center has faced increasing scrutiny. Congress discontinued funding for the GEC beyond this year, so the subagency closed its doors on Dec. 23. But, as the Washington Examiner reported, the State Department planned in December to reroute more than 50 GEC employees — and tens of millions of dollars — to a new group, the “Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Hub.” This move could effectively resurrect the GEC.

Biden’s feeble farewell address may seem like the dying breath of a Democrat censorship regime, staring into perhaps its greatest threat since its inception — a second Trump administration. But, as seen in the GEC’s potential resurrection, the struggle is far from over.

As Mike Benz, founder of the Foundation for Freedom Online, said to One America News, “The free speech fight is just getting started.”
