Dennis Quaid credits his faith for overcoming cocaine addiction.
Actor Dennis Quaid Releases Debut Gospel Album “Fallen” Inspired by Faith Journey
Emmy award-winning actor Dennis Quaid has recently unveiled his highly anticipated gospel album, “Fallen.” This remarkable musical endeavor was born out of Quaid’s personal faith journey, which involved overcoming a harrowing addiction to cocaine.
Renowned for his unforgettable performances in films such as ”Great Balls of Fire!,” “The Rookie,” and “The Parent Trap,” Quaid candidly shared with Jesse Watters Primetime the struggles he faced during his acting career due to his cocaine addiction.
A Battle Fought in the Shadows
“It kept me up at night. A lot of sleepless nights, you know, going to bed, going to work with one hour of sleep sometimes,” Quaid revealed, shedding light on the dark times he endured. The actor described himself as having been “pretty much a mess.”
While pursuing his acting career, Quaid was also a talented musician and part of a band. However, his addiction ultimately led to the band’s dissolution.
“But I had one of those experiences when I got home that night. I saw myself, you know, either being dead or in jail or losing everything that was really important to me, and I put myself into rehab the very next day,” Quaid explained. ”I think I was kind of known as a bad boy. Yeah, I was playing bad boy parts. But you know, cocaine was just pervasive back then. And, you know, hardly anybody was hiding it. It was in movie budgets. There were articles in People magazine back then that it wasn’t addictive. And people started dropping.”
Overcoming the Abyss
“You know, went through it, got through it. And, you know, it leaves a hole in your life,” the actor added. ”Everybody has that hole that they try to fill. And, you know, my faith was the thing that really got me through that.”
