Derek Chauvin, Ex-Minneapolis Cop Convicted Of Murdering George Floyd, Files Appeal
Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, asked Wednesday for a Minnesota appeals court to overturn his conviction in the death of George Floyd.
Chauvin is currently serving a 22.5 year sentence in prison. He was sentenced by a juror to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree unintentional, and third-degree murder charges. Chauvin’s attorney, William Mohrman, told the court that his client’s trial should not have been held in Minneapolis.
“Our primary argument here is that this case could not be tried in Minneapolis because of the pretrial publicity which was pervasive … and also just the physical pressure on the courthouse,” Mohrman stated that according to NPR.
