DeSantis considers RFK Jr. as VP, shares other roles for Kennedy in his administration.
DeSantis Considers RFK Jr. for Administration Role
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. may not be a contender in the Democratic presidential primaries, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have a place in the next administration. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican presidential candidate, has expressed interest in finding a role for Kennedy if he loses to President Joe Biden in the Democratic race.
During an appearance on talk radio host Clay Travis’ podcast, DeSantis ruled out Kennedy as his running mate but suggested he could serve in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the Food and Drug Administration. DeSantis cited his agreement with Kennedy on the corruption within health bureaucracies and their shared criticism of former White House medical adviser Anthony Fauci.
However, DeSantis also acknowledged their ideological differences, noting that Kennedy is more liberal and has made controversial statements in the past, such as advocating for climate change deniers to be jailed. DeSantis emphasized the need for conservative voters to have a clear understanding of Kennedy’s positions.
This isn’t the first time Kennedy’s name has been mentioned in relation to a potential role in the Republican party. Former President Donald Trump also praised Kennedy, calling him a “smart guy” and acknowledging his high polling numbers.
While DeSantis expressed skepticism about Kennedy’s compatibility with the Republican base, he did suggest that Kennedy could be a valuable asset in the FDA or CDC. This potential appointment could tap into the growing skepticism towards Dr. Fauci and the desire for alternative voices within the scientific community.
Having a Kennedy in the administration would also challenge the narrative that Republicans are solely aligned with conservative values. It would demonstrate a willingness to work across party lines and could potentially foster greater cooperation between Democrats and Republicans.
While it remains to be seen whether Kennedy will ultimately join the administration, his name continues to generate interest and speculation. Regardless of the outcome, his involvement would undoubtedly add an intriguing dynamic to the political landscape.
