DeSantis Campaign reacts to shutdown of independent ‘fraudulent’ PAC.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s Presidential Campaign Celebrates Closure of Scam PAC
The closure of the Ron to the Rescue super PAC has brought “welcome news” to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign. According to Andrew Romeo, the campaign’s communications director, the PAC was nothing more than a scam looking to exploit DeSantis’s popularity.
“We’ve been clear from the start that this was a scam PAC trying to take advantage of Ron DeSantis, and we’re glad to hear they’ve stopped trying to deceive our donors,” Romeo stated.
DeSantis’s campaign has been highly successful in fundraising, outpacing both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in the last quarter. With his strong debate performance and growing momentum in the early states, the campaign is confident in its continued fundraising success.

The Ron to the Rescue super PAC was launched by Republican strategist John Thomas last fall to encourage DeSantis to enter the 2024 presidential race. However, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Thomas revealed that he and the PAC’s donors had become disillusioned with the governor due to his botched campaign launch on Twitter.
DeSantis chose to announce his candidacy through a glitchy Twitter Spaces interview with Elon Musk, instead of the traditional mainstream media interviews or large campaign events. While his campaign and some supporters tried to spin the technical difficulties as a sign of overwhelming support, it had a negative impact on potential donors.
Thomas emphasized the importance of providing video footage on the launch day to project the candidate’s vision for the future. He also mentioned other mistakes made by the campaign, such as sharing internal documents online and accepting a debate challenge from California Gov. Gavin Newsom. These errors led to the loss of significant financial support for DeSantis.
Another factor that may have affected contributions to the PAC is a letter sent by Benjamin Gibson, legal counsel for DeSantis, warning donors that the committee was using the governor’s name and likeness without his permission. This created confusion among DeSantis’s supporters.
With the closure of the Ron to the Rescue PAC, Thomas and his donor network now plan to shift their support to former President Donald Trump. They were impressed by Trump’s campaign savvy and discipline, which they had not seen before.
