DeSantis Clarifies Stance on Ukraine, Calls Putin ‘a War Criminal’
Florida’s governor After referring to the Russia-Ukraine conflict as a simple” territorial dispute ,” Ron DeSantis clarified his recent remarks on it.
DeSantis claimed that his thoughts had been mischaracterized in an exam with Piers Morgan on March 23 of the Fox Nation system” Piers Morgan Uncensored ,” which Morgan had previously previewed in a March 22 New York Post story.
DeSantis remarked,” Clearly, Russia invaded— that was right. That was incorrect:” They invaded Crimea and took that in 2014!”
The governor’s criticism of Russia in his meeting with Morgan was greater than in a past statement he made to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, which the latter released on March 13.
DeSantis said the United States should stay out of the Ukraine-Russia fight in response to a survey Carlson sent to all possible GOP presidential hopefuls regarding the war in Ukraine.
Being more involved in a regional dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them, he told Carlson, even though the United States has many important national interests, including securing our borders, dealing with the preparation problems within our army, realizing energy security and independence, and preventing the Chinese Communist Party from gaining more economic, social, or military power. The Biden administration diverts attention from our nation’s most urgent problems by funding this fight for as long as it takes without any clear goals or responsibilities.
DeSantis Continue to Oppose US Involvement
DeSantis stated in his interview with Morgan that Russia has no right to Ukraine, but he also emphasized that the United States should refrain from intervening in the fight, whether through the deployment of American troops or service to the fighting.
He said,” I really don’t think that’s a significant interest for us to rise more presence.” I don’t need American troops to be involved it. However, the notion that I believe Russia was justified in invading is absurd.
DeSantis also criticized Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, calling him” a war crime.”
” I believe he has lofty goals. The government said,” I believe he is hostile to the United States, but I believe the way we have seen is that the man lacks the standard capacity to understand his interests.
The International Criminal Court ( ICC) issued an arrest warrant on March 17 for Putin’s alleged illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. Russia slammed the Hague-based court in retaliation.
DeSantis stated that while Putin may be held guilty, he is unsure whether the ICC is the most effective tool for doing so. The ICC does not include the United States.
DeSantis added that Russia would remove the conflict.
” I don’t think it’s going to end with Putin winning ,” he declared. ” I don’t believe he will overthrow the Russian authorities, and I believe that’s a good thing.”
DeSantis is anticipated to suddenly announce a GOP primary for the White House, in which prominent candidates include previous president Donald Trump and South Carolina governor. Nikki Haley, who under Trump was the U.S. adviser to the UN.
