DeSantis Fires Back At Manhattan D.A. Over Trump Indictment

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, causing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to question the credibility of the case and announce that the state will not assist in the extradition request. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office filed the felony indictment under seal over Trump’s alleged payment of $130,000 in hush money to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

In a statement, DeSantis criticized the “weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda” and accused the Manhattan District Attorney, who is backed by George Soros, of consistently bending the law to excuse criminal conduct. He continued to express that given the controversial circumstances surrounding the Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda, Florida will not assist with an extradition request. This makes Trump the first former US President in history to face criminal charges.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the Manhattan District Attorney is investigating allegations of a $150,000 payment to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, and the prosecutors could bring additional potential charges against Trump should evidence of the payment be found. The former President also faces legal jeopardy in three other criminal investigations, including two federal investigations into efforts to stay in power after the 2020 election and his handling of US government records after leaving office, and an investigation in Georgia into his efforts to remain in power after losing the election.

This report has been updated to include additional information.
