Gov. Ron DeSantis Accepts Invitation to Debate Gov. Gavin Newsom
Excitement is building as Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) eagerly accepts an invitation to engage in a high-stakes debate with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA). In an effort to generate buzz around this clash of political heavyweights, DeSantis’s presidential campaign has cleverly crafted online ads that depict the showdown as an epic video game.
Choose Your Fighter: DeSantis vs. Newsom
These captivating advertisements can be found across various platforms, including Meta, X (formerly known as Twitter), and the Google Display network. Users are invited to “choose their fighter” or vote for their preferred champion. The ads present DeSantis as a ”champion of freedom” and Newsom as a “challenger California Dem.” Additionally, the ads highlight a knockout bonus labeled as “freedom” and reveal the fight date as August 2023.
Newsom’s team has proposed several potential locations for the debate, including Georgia, Nevada, or North Carolina, with suggested dates of either November 8 or 10. Their proposal also recommends a live 90-minute debate moderated solely by Fox News host Sean Hannity, without an audience present.
DeSantis wasted no time in accepting the invitation during his appearance on Hannity’s Fox News show. With enthusiasm, he declared, “Absolutely, I’m game. Let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where. We’ll do it.”
DeSantis further emphasized the significance of this debate, stating, “In one respect, the debate between California and Florida has already been had, as you suggest. People have been voting on that. They’ve been voting on it with their feet. They have fled California in record numbers.”
Newsom had previously challenged DeSantis to a debate in 2022, reigniting their ongoing feud. During an interview with Hannity in June, the California governor renewed his offer, setting the stage for this highly anticipated showdown.
Initially, DeSantis’s team responded to the debate calls by criticizing Newsom’s “liberal governance” and asserting that “the debate is already settled.” In fact, during a press conference, Governor DeSantis urged Newsom to “stop pussyfooting around” and address the pressing issues facing California.
As the anticipation builds, the nation eagerly awaits this monumental clash between two influential leaders.
