DeSantis PAC’s $95k donation secures ad space at religious forum.
Gov. Ron DeSantis Pays $95,000 to Engage with Conservative Evangelicals
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) made a bold move last month by attending and advertising at a religious forum in Iowa. The Family Leadership Summit, a gathering of 2,000 conservative evangelicals on July 14, attracted several GOP candidates vying for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination. To secure his presence, the DeSantis campaign, a DeSantis-linked super PAC, and a nonprofit organization supporting him joined forces and paid a fee of $95,000.
This investment resulted in three pages of eye-catching ads featured in a booklet distributed at the summit, as well as tickets to the event, lunch, and an exclusive after-dinner gathering. The opportunity to capture the attention of engaged grassroots activists was deemed invaluable by FLS CEO Bob Vander Plaats, 60, who stated that the fee was ”not even close to exorbitant.”
“My only regret is that we probably should have charged more,” Vander Plaats added, emphasizing the significance of reaching this influential audience.
The Washington Examiner reached out to both FLS and the DeSantis campaign for their comments on this strategic move.
Where Trump, DeSantis, and the Rest of the Republican 2024 Field Stand on Key Issues
Vander Plaats, known for accurately predicting the winners of the Iowa caucus in the past, endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2008, former Sen. Rick Santorum in 2012, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in 2016. Iowa, with its 28% population of evangelical Protestants, holds significant influence in the political landscape, making it a prime location for engaging with this demographic.
Notably absent from the event was former President Donald Trump, whose absence did not go unnoticed.
