Florida Governor Ron DeSantis: Not Interested in VP Role with Trump

During a recent appearance on the “Wisconsin Right Now” podcast, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made it clear that he has no interest in running as vice president alongside former President Donald Trump if Trump were to secure the 2024 Republican Party nomination.

“I’m not a No. 2 guy,” DeSantis confidently stated. “I think I’m a leader. As the Governor of Florida, I’ve accomplished a lot. I believe I can achieve even more by staying in my current position rather than becoming Vice President, which doesn’t hold much authority.”

DeSantis’s remarks come just before the upcoming Republican Party presidential debate. Currently, the top two contenders on the Republican side are Trump and DeSantis, with former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) trailing behind in single digits. Several other candidates are polling in the low single digits.

Despite recent media narratives suggesting otherwise, DeSantis’s campaign remains strong. The Real Clear Politics average, which combines all the top polls, shows that DeSantis’s position has remained relatively stable since he announced his candidacy. In fact, he is now slightly closer to Trump in national polls.

The only significant movement in the polls occurred when Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted the former president in late March, which rallied many Republican voters behind him.

DeSantis dismissed the criticisms as mere media “narratives” during an interview, highlighting the impressive fundraising achievements of his campaign and the supporting Super PAC. He emphasized that they recently announced record-breaking fundraising of approximately $150 million, which has yet to be fully utilized.

While DeSantis looks forward to participating in the upcoming debates, he acknowledges that winning the nomination requires hard work, dedication, and perseverance. He understands that success cannot be achieved overnight and is prepared to put in the necessary effort to secure victory.
