DeSantis Announces Florida Halts Haitian Boat Smuggling Drugs and Weapons
A Bold Interception at Sea: Florida’s Fight Against Illegal Migration
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, in a determined move on Friday, disclosed an intense encounter at sea. State officials successfully intercepted a boat laden with Haitian migrants, an alarming array of firearms, and illegal drugs—all amidst the backdrop of Haiti’s escalating gang violence.
The Operation in Detail
“Our Florida Fish and Wildlife officers interdicted a vessel that had 25 Haitians who may be illegal immigrants. With guns, drugs, and night vision gear on board, their reckless sailing could have endangered others,” DeSantis said at a press conference.
The governor revealed that this vessel was seized in recent weeks, and the occupants were subsequently handed to the Coast Guard for deportation.
This incident wasn’t an isolated one. Earlier reports noted a leak revealing Border Patrol emails, instructing Miami agents to brace for a possible surge of migrants escaping Haiti’s gang-dominated turmoil.
Florida’s Proactive Measures
In anticipation of the crisis, DeSantis deployed nearly 150 officers—including 48 from the National Guard—to safeguard the Floridian shoreline.
“The Haitian migration to Florida is just the start,” he stated, highlighting that over 670 vessels with more than 13,500 migrants have been intercepted off Florida’s coast since the start of the year.
A Stern Warning to Migrants
DeSantis issued a stern warning to those contemplating the perilous journey to Florida’s shores. “Think twice,” he advised. “You will likely be stopped and sent home. The risks are great, and Florida stands ready to protect its citizens.”
