DeSantis: Trump didn’t drain swamp, I’ll stop government weaponization.

Gov. Ron DeSantis: Promising to Drain the Swamp

In a recent interview on the Mark Belling Show, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) boldly criticized former President Donald Trump for failing to fulfill his promise of “draining the swamp.” DeSantis, however, assured listeners that if elected president, he would take decisive action to tackle the issue head-on.

“I think the question is what are we going to do about it because we had the swamp; the promise in 2016 was that [Trump] would drain the swamp, but the swamp got way worse,” DeSantis said. “It’s way worse today than it was in 2016.”

Expanding on his point, the Florida governor emphasized the need to address the weaponization of government and outlined his plan to combat it.

A New Direction: Cleaning House and Restoring Balance

DeSantis expressed his determination to end the weaponization of government, highlighting his intention to make strong executive decisions to clean house. One of his first actions would be appointing a new director for the FBI, as he firmly believes that a fresh perspective is needed.

“We will have a new director of the FBI on day one in my administration; the former president said the jury’s still out on the FBI director — I don’t think the jury’s still out,” he said. “I think we all know we need a new direction there.”

Furthermore, DeSantis pledged to overhaul the Department of Justice and redistribute the responsibilities of various agencies across the country. This strategic move aims to prevent the concentration of power in Washington, D.C.

“We will clean house at the Department of Justice. We will parcel out parts of these agencies to other parts of the country so that we can stop the accumulation of power in D.C. So I think what we need to do is look forward and figure out who has the discipline, who has the commitment to detail, who’s going to keep their eye on the ball so that you can actually bring the administrative state to heal. They are not going to give up their power willingly. And they are going to eat the lunch of anybody that goes in there and isn’t focused on this day after day.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis is determined to bring about meaningful change and restore balance to the government. With a focus on discipline, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment, he aims to rein in the administrative state and ensure that the power is in the hands of the people.
