DeSantis slipping in polls as Trump ramps up attacks
Considered to be one of the top-runners AFlorida Gov. is the top contender to Donald Trump in 2024’s GOP primary. As Trump’s attacks intensify in recent months, Ron DeSantis has been steadily losing momentum.
Trump launched a new offensive strategy earlier in the year against DeSantis. This included attacking DeSantis over a range of policy issues, as well as insulting and calling him demeaning names. This strategy seems to have paid off as DeSantis has fallen in the polls the past two months, while Trump’s numbers are increasing.

Trump is ramping up his third White House bid. Trump has devised a plan to destroy Republicans’ trust in DeSantis to weaken the man who is most likely to be his toughest primary rival. This strategy is designed to discourage DeSantis, or at the very least to tarnish his standing if he does enter the race for the White House.
Recent polling has shown inconsistent results in a matchup of Trump and DeSantis. Some surveys show DeSantis leading Trump, while others show Trump comfortably cruising to the nomination. When you compare survey results over time, it is clear that DeSantis is losing ground while Trump is steadily improving.
According to an analysis done by the, Trump and DeSantis were practically tied in polling averages taken before Jan. 15. New York Times. However, if you look at the current numbers, DeSantis is now garnering just 40% of the vote, compared to Trump who grabs 52%.
Trends are similar between Trump and DeSantis when the two candidates run in a multicandidate field. Trump had a lead of roughly 10 points over DeSantis before Jan. 15, but this lead has widened to almost 20 points today according to the outlet.
DeSantis’s decline in the polls could have been due to many factors. The most obvious being that Florida governor, who has not yet entered the race, has resisted getting involved. Trump’s attacks on DeSantis have been relentless, and he has even called him “the enemy”. “Meatball Ron” DeSantis is a copycat and has largely taken the attacks as a whole.

His falling poll numbers could also be due to the fact that DeSantis benefited from extensive media coverage detailing his landslide midterm victory in November — helping to bolster his national standing among conservatives. His honeymoon period of victory may have faded since then.
Trump’s momentum has come after Trump was criticised for his slow start in his White House run. Trump was absent from the campaign trail for several months and did no public events before January. Trump has since flown across multiple primary states to try to jump-start the campaign.
