DeSantis loses support in recent poll, Trump remains popular.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Faces Uphill Battle in ⁣2024 Presidential Campaign

As Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) sets his sights on the 2024 presidential campaign, a recent poll indicates that he has a tough road ahead. According to a Morning Consult poll released on Tuesday,‌ DeSantis has slipped to 15% support among potential Republican primary voters, while former President Donald Trump continues ‍to⁣ dominate the race with 58% support. Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy comes in third at 9%, followed by former Vice President Mike Pence at 7%. All other candidates received 3% or⁤ less in the survey.

Tim Scott’s Strategies‍ Could Shake Up DeSantis’s Position

Notably, Trump maintains a‍ commanding lead over DeSantis, with a 43 percentage point difference, even as he faces a superseding indictment over allegations of mishandling classified documents. Meanwhile, DeSantis has been grappling with negative headlines ⁣surrounding his ‍campaign strategy. ⁢In contrast, Ramaswamy, considered a ‌long-shot candidate, has seen ‍a six percentage ⁤point⁢ increase ‍in his poll numbers since mid-June, while DeSantis’s numbers have dropped by five ⁣percentage points in the same period.

When Morning Consult began tracking ⁣Republican primary voters in December, DeSantis polled at 30% and Trump at 50%. However, since then, DeSantis’s support has decreased by 15 percentage points, while Trump’s support has increased by eight percentage points, despite facing two indictments this year.

In April, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg unveiled a 34-count indictment against ⁣Trump for a hush money payment scheme to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016⁣ presidential election. Subsequently, special counsel Jack Smith issued a 37-count indictment in June over mishandling classified documents, which was later increased to 40 federal charges in a superseding indictment last week. Trump has consistently denied any ⁢wrongdoing in relation to these charges.

However, Trump may face two additional indictments related to Smith’s investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot ⁤and a‍ Georgia investigation into⁣ allegations of election result tampering ⁣in the 2020 presidential election.

DeSantis has faced criticism regarding his retail politics approach, his ability to sway voters away from Trump, and his campaign spending, which recently led to the firing of 38 staffers.

Nevertheless, DeSantis remains steadfast in his belief that ⁣he is the only ⁣candidate capable of winning back the White House in‍ next year’s elections. However, a hypothetical matchup presented in the‍ Morning Consult poll shows that President Joe Biden would defeat both Trump and DeSantis. Biden leads Trump ‌by ‌a three percentage point gap, 44% ⁤to ⁤41%, and leads DeSantis by six‍ percentage points, 44% to 38%. These results challenge DeSantis’s claim of being the strongest candidate to defeat Biden.

Trump maintains‍ a high favorability rating among voters at 71%, as does DeSantis, who has a 63% favorability rating. Pence ‍comes in third place with a 50%⁣ favorability rating, while no other candidate⁣ surpasses 50% after the former vice president.

The surveys were conducted from July ‍28-30 and have a margin of error⁣ of plus or minus four percentage points.
