DeSantis joins Trump at Iowa vs. Iowa State game tailgate.
Gov. Ron DeSantis Takes Iowa by Storm Ahead of Big Game
Gearing up for the highly anticipated football game between Iowa State and Iowa University, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is making his presence known on the Iowa State campus. But this visit is about more than just football. DeSantis is on a mission to connect with the people of Iowa, having already visited over half of the state’s 99 counties.
DeSantis’s campaign and super PAC, “Never Back Down,” have set up offices in Des Moines, strategically positioning themselves to make a lasting impact. In fact, AdImpact, an advertisement tracking firm, reports that the PAC has invested a whopping $16 million in Iowa market television ads. And they’re not stopping there. A new $25 million ad is set to run through the end of October, ensuring DeSantis’s message reaches every corner of the state.
Trump Joins the Game
Adding to the excitement, former President Donald Trump will also be in attendance at the game. According to the RealClearPolitics Iowa tracker, Trump is currently polling 26 points higher than DeSantis, making him the clear frontrunner. This isn’t Trump’s first time at this rivalry game either. Back in 2015, he made an appearance while on his first campaign trail.
DeSantis has been gaining momentum in Iowa, securing a crucial endorsement from Dr. Cody Hoefert, the former co-chairman of the Iowa Republican Party. Hoefert, who served as co-chairman from 2014 to 2021, praised DeSantis’s performance at the Republican National Committee’s primary debate. This endorsement further solidifies DeSantis’s standing among Iowa Republicans.
While DeSantis has been making waves in Iowa, he hasn’t forgotten about his home state of Florida. Fresh from assessing the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia, the governor has been working tirelessly to ensure the well-being of his constituents. President Joe Biden also visited the affected areas, but contrary to previous claims, there were no plans for a meeting between the two leaders. Instead, Biden was accompanied by Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Live Oak Mayor Frank Davis. DeSantis’s visit to Iowa marks his first campaign stop since the hurricane made landfall.
