DeSantis urges Trump: Cease online attacks, confront me directly in a debate.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Slams Trump for Online Attacks and Skipping Primary Debates
In a fiery post-debate interview, Governor Ron DeSantis didn’t hold back in criticizing former President Donald Trump for continuously attacking him online while avoiding the Republican Party presidential primary debates.
Speaking with Bill Hemmer on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” DeSantis argued that Trump owed it to the voters to defend his record and the decisions he made. He questioned why Trump was running on the same promises from 2016 that he failed to implement, such as “draining the swamp” by not firing Christopher Wray and Anthony Fauci.
DeSantis also called out Trump for the massive amounts of debt accumulated during his last year in office and the potential inflation it could lead to. He challenged Trump to step up on stage and confront him face-to-face instead of hiding behind social media attacks.
Despite Trump’s absence from the primary debates, DeSantis expressed his readiness to engage in a one-on-one discussion with the former president, giving the American people the choice they deserve.

Back in August, Trump announced that he would not participate in any primary debates, citing his lead in the national polls and voters’ familiarity with his record as president. Following this week’s debate, his campaign called on the Republican National Committee to cancel all remaining primary debates and fully support Trump’s nomination.
“Tonight’s GOP debate was as boring and inconsequential as the first debate, and nothing that was said will change the dynamics of the primary contest being dominated by President Trump,” said Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita. “The RNC should immediately put an end to any further primary debates so we can train our fire on Crooked Joe Biden and quit wasting time and money that could be going to evicting Biden from the White House.”
Why does Governor DeSantis believe it is important for Trump to participate in primary debates?
Criticized him for his lack of transparency in releasing his tax returns. He emphasized that these issues need to be addressed and debated in order for voters to make informed decisions.
Furthermore, DeSantis expressed his disappointment in Trump’s online attacks against him. He highlighted that instead of engaging in meaningful policy discussions, Trump chose to use social media as a platform to criticize and demean fellow Republicans. DeSantis stated that this behavior is not only counterproductive but also harmful to the overall unity of the party.
DeSantis acknowledged Trump’s popularity among the Republican base and his ability to energize supporters. However, he argued that this should not exempt him from participating in primary debates. He emphasized the importance of these debates as a way to showcase ideas, answer tough questions, and present a clear vision for the future of the Republican Party.
The Florida Governor also took the opportunity to outline his own accomplishments and vision for the state. He discussed his successful handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, his efforts to improve education, and his commitment to lower taxes and promote economic growth. DeSantis asserted that his record speaks for itself and he is ready to defend it in any forum, including debates.
In concluding the interview, DeSantis expressed his hope that Trump would reconsider his decision to skip the primary debates and engage in a respectful and constructive manner. He emphasized the importance of a united Republican Party and the need for strong and effective leadership to address the challenges facing the nation.
This outspoken criticism from Governor Ron DeSantis toward former President Donald Trump highlights the growing divide within the Republican Party. It signals a shift in the dynamics of the party, as influential figures like DeSantis are willing to challenge Trump’s actions and hold him accountable. The primary debates serve as a crucial platform for candidates to showcase their ideas and policies, allowing voters to make informed decisions. By criticizing Trump for avoiding these debates and for his online attacks, DeSantis has shown a willingness to prioritize principle over personal loyalty. This article serves as a reminder that political leaders should prioritize the needs and interests of the constituents over personal agendas, even when it means challenging popular figures within their own party.
