DeSantis cautions against liberal Supreme Court packing in 2024.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Warns of Supreme Court Packing

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) delivered a powerful message to conservative voters, cautioning them about the potential consequences if Democrats maintain control of the White House and Senate in 2024. He asserted that the Democrats are already laying the groundwork to “delegitimize” two current Supreme Court justices, with the ultimate goal of packing the court with liberal justices.

DeSantis emphasized that liberals are deeply concerned about the conservative-leaning court and are determined to seize control by stacking it with justices who align with their ideology. Currently, the Supreme Court holds a 6-3 conservative majority.

A Call to Action

In a passionate speech, DeSantis urged his audience to be vigilant, stating, “If they’re able to sweep in [2024], they’re going to pack the U.S. Supreme Court with liberal justices.” He expressed his unwavering support for Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito, who have been targeted by these attacks.

DeSantis made it clear that if he were elected president in 2024, he would nominate justices who embody the principles and values of Thomas and Alito. These two justices have recently faced criticism from the Left following reports published by ProPublica, which raised allegations of conflicts of interest.

Defending Conservative Justices

The accusations against Justice Thomas arose earlier this year when it was revealed that he had taken undisclosed trips with billionaire GOP donor Harlan Crow. Similarly, Justice Alito was accused of taking an expensive trip with a friend, Paul Singer, to an Alaskan fishing lodge in 2008. Both justices have vehemently defended their friendships and the nature of these trips.

Regarding the case involving Singer, it was reported that he had business interests that appeared before the court, which he ultimately won with Alito’s vote.

Justice Alito responded to the allegations in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, stating, “ProPublica has leveled two charges against me: first, that I should have recused myself in matters involving Paul Singer, and second, that I was obligated to disclose certain items as gifts on my 2008 Financial Disclose Report. Neither charge is valid.”

Justice Thomas, on the other hand, explained that he had consulted with colleagues in the judiciary regarding the trips and was advised that gifts from close personal friends did not need to be reported if they had no business before the Supreme Court.

Respecting Conservative Justices

While acknowledging his respect for the three newest conservative justices on the court, Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and Neil Gorsuch, who were nominated by former President Donald Trump, DeSantis asserted that he would strive to “do better than that.”

As the longest-serving justice on the court, having been nominated and appointed in 1991, Justice Thomas has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to upholding conservative principles. Justice Alito, who has served on the court since 2006, has also proven his dedication to the conservative cause.

DeSantis’s warning serves as a call to action for conservative voters, urging them to remain vigilant and engaged in the fight to protect the integrity of the Supreme Court.
