DeSantis’s job approval rating in Florida jumps to four-year high: Poll

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, a member of the Republican party, has received his highest job performance approval rating in four years. The impressive rating comes as he contemplates a potential run in the 2024 elections.

Surprisingly enough, the poll, which was conducted by Mason-Dixon, showed a 59% job performance approval rating, a four-point increase since September 2021, and 55% percent.

The survey also marked DeSantis’s highest job approval rating by Mason-Dixon since March 2019 when he earned a 62% approval rating with 24% disapproving and 14% unsure. Last November, DeSantis cruised to a double-digit reelection victory, riding a Republican red wave in the Sunshine State.

In terms of general favorability, Governor DeSantis received a 53% favorable rating compared to 36% unfavorable. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump claimed 39% favorability to 50% unfavorability, and President Joe Biden received 33% favorable to 54% unfavorable rating, respectively, based on the poll.

Among Republican voters, Governor DeSantis enjoys an 87% favorability rating to 7% negative, while Trump is at 71% favorable and 19% negative, according to the poll.

The Mason-Dixon poll was conducted from March 27 to March 30 among 625 registered voters via telephone with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points for the general sample of voters. For the Republicans subset, the poll included 507 Republicans with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4. percentage points.

Governor DeSantis also topped Trump in the poll by 44% to 39% among Florida Republicans, just slightly above the margin of error. Florida has 125 delegates out of the total 2,467 up for grabs in the GOP cycle. It is worth noting that Trump has enjoyed a boost in GOP polls following the Manhattan grand jury’s vote to indict him.

According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate, Trump is the GOP front-runner, with Governor DeSantis running second in a hypothetical 2024 GOP primary. Governor DeSantis is expected to unveil his 2024 plans after the Florida state legislature concludes its business in May.

Several surveys in early primary states show Governor DeSantis running competitively with Trump. However, the former president’s edge tends to grow when other 2024 hopefuls are added to the mix.
