Devon Archer criticizes Joe’s calls with Hunter’s associates as an abuse of influence.
President Joe Biden Abused His Vice Presidential Authority
In a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, former Biden business associate Devon Archer confirmed that President Joe Biden abused his vice presidential authority by joining speakerphone calls with his son’s business associates. This revelation sheds light on the attempts made by Hunter Biden to build the “Biden brand” and sell access to his father, the then-vice president. Hunter would put his dad on speakerphone during meetings with various financial partners, a practice that occurred two dozen times.
Contradictions and Controversy
After Archer’s testimony, Democrat Rep. Dan Goldman claimed that Joe Biden’s involvement in these calls was merely to discuss the “weather.” This contradicts the Democrats’ previous insistence that Joe had no involvement in Hunter’s foreign business dealings. Archer’s confirmation, however, reveals that Joe’s phone calls did indeed influence the people in Hunter’s meetings.
Archer confessed, “To be completely clear on the calls, I don’t know if it was an orchestrated call or not. It certainly was powerful, though, because if you’re sitting with a foreign business person and you hear the vice president’s voice, that’s prized enough. That’s pretty impactful stuff for anyone.”
The Power of the Biden Brand
Archer acknowledged that at the time, having a close relationship with the vice president gave him and Hunter’s company a significant advantage. However, he later recognized that it was an abuse of soft power. Archer stated, “The power to have that access in that conversation, and it’s not in a scheduled conference call, and it’s a part of your family, that’s like the pinnacle of power in DC.”
Letters and Connections
Phone calls were not the only means Joe used to contact Biden family associates. He also met with Archer at least “20 times” and even wrote him a letter expressing gratitude for partnering with Hunter. Archer described it as a “nice gesture,” but Tucker Carlson pointed out that it was inappropriate for the vice president to discuss foreign business deals and thank someone for their involvement.
Archer admitted that initially, he saw the benefits of being closely connected to the Bidens, but eventually realized the problems associated with it. He stated, “Being a little bit too close to the sun ends up burning you.”
The Biden Brand and Influence Peddling
Hunter Biden entered the world of influence peddling under the guise of private equity, despite lacking personal experience in the field. However, Archer assured Carlson that Hunter led a team with a sophisticated understanding of regulation. Archer explained, “You’ve got to be an expert in knowing the guy, and he was the guy that was the expert in knowing the guy.” The Biden brand added significant power to their business dealings, leveraging the vice president’s position.
Carlson highlighted that Washington D.C. is known as a “selling access” city rather than a “money town.” Archer agreed, stating that understanding the regulatory environment often translates to selling access. He added, “That’s how I interpreted it. I think that’s how most people in Wall Street, whether they admit it or not, interpreted it.”
Archer acknowledged that Hunter’s connections with government officials greatly benefited their company. He explained the tactical elements involved in navigating regulations and compliance, emphasizing the advantage Hunter had due to his family’s political ties.
A Wake of Destruction
While Hunter’s wheeling and dealing under the Biden brand initially seemed like a sweet deal, Archer admitted that it deserved scrutiny. He described it as an “Icarus issue,” where the connections were too close and the scrutiny too much, ultimately leading to destruction and business problems over the years.
Carlson concluded by highlighting that the Bidens are not business people and that the vice president should not be involved in business dealings with foreign governments. Archer agreed, stating, ”Not that I know of.”
