Devon Archer denies false Democratic claim about Biden business.
Devon Archer: Joe Biden Was Involved in Hunter’s Foreign Businesses
Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s former business partner, has refuted claims by Democrats that President Joe Biden had no involvement in his son’s foreign business ventures.
“That’s categorically false,” Archer told Tucker Carlson in a lengthy interview published Friday. “He was aware of Hunter’s business. He met with Hunter’s business partners.”
Nine Takeaways from the Devon Archer Transcript
Democrats have tried to argue that Archer’s testimony to the House Oversight Committee aligns with Joe Biden’s previous statements about Hunter Biden’s foreign contracts while he was in office. However, Joe Biden had long maintained that he never discussed business matters with his son.
Archer, who served on the board of a Ukrainian energy company alongside Hunter Biden, stated that he did not hear Joe Biden discuss specific business matters during their meetings. However, he emphasized that the mere presence of Joe Biden at these meetings and his accessibility by phone played a crucial role in securing Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals.
According to Archer, Joe Biden’s interactions with his son’s foreign business partners were enough to provide legitimacy and attract large paychecks for Hunter Biden. The perception of proximity to the then-vice president was highly valued by companies seeking credibility.
Archer’s appearance before the House Oversight Committee sparked debates between Democrats and Republicans, with each side interpreting the interview to support their respective narratives. Democrats saw it as an exoneration of Joe Biden, while Republicans believed it implicated him in his son’s business.
Archer left his business partnership with Hunter Biden in 2016 due to an unrelated fraud case indictment. He also resigned from the board of Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company. However, Hunter Biden remained on the board and continued to receive substantial income until his father left office.
Joe Biden has remained relatively silent about the situation since his son’s court appearance on tax charges related to his foreign business work. Hunter Biden was offered a lenient plea deal by the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware, but it was rejected by a judge.
During the interview with the House Oversight Committee, Archer revealed that he received immunity to testify before a grand jury in Delaware. The extent to which prosecutors will utilize his testimony remains uncertain.
While Hunter Biden’s foreign business relationships were detailed in his tax case documents, he has not been charged for failing to register as a foreign lobbyist. This was one of the areas of interest during the five-year investigation of Hunter Biden.
Archer explained that having Hunter Biden on the board of Burisma helped shield the company from deeper scrutiny in a corrupt country like Ukraine. The association with the Biden name sent signals that deterred Ukrainian officials.
Archer also addressed the confusion surrounding the role of Viktor Shokin, the former prosecutor general of Ukraine who was investigating Burisma. Archer confirmed that Shokin was indeed investigating the company and posed a threat to its operations.
Despite attempts by Democrats to downplay Shokin’s investigation, Archer stated that the narrative fed to the board was that Shokin was not a threat and that his removal would only worsen Burisma’s legal troubles.
Archer did not disclose whether he believed this narrative, and subsequent events do not necessarily support it. However, he clarified that he was not involved in any conversations where Hunter Biden or Burisma executives directly asked Joe Biden to intervene in Shokin’s removal.
