Dianne Feinstein’s daughter claims her mom is an elder abuse victim, per report.
Katherine Feinstein Alleges Elder Abuse Against Her Mother, Sen. Dianne Feinstein
In a recent court filing, Katherine Feinstein, the daughter of Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, made a shocking claim that her mother is a victim of elder abuse.
Katherine alleges that the co-trustees of a trust associated with the late Richard Blum, the senator’s husband, have failed to fund a trust created by him. Richard Blum, a wealthy businessman, passed away last February, leaving behind an estimated $1 billion.
According to SF Gate, Katherine, who recently surrendered a partial power of attorney to her mother, went to court on Aug. 8 to accuse Michael Klein, Marc Scholvinck, and Verett Mims of financial elder abuse. She claims that they have purposely withheld regular payments from the fund, hoping that most of it will eventually go to Blum’s children.
Katherine Feinstein has asked the court to suspend Klein, Scholvinck, and Mims from managing the account. However, an attorney for Klein and Scholvinck disputes these allegations, stating that the trustees have acted ethically and appropriately at all times.
These allegations of elder abuse come at a time when Sen. Feinstein is facing calls to step down from her seat due to concerns about her health and ability to represent her constituents. Despite being the country’s longest-serving senator at 90 years old, Feinstein has vowed to finish her term but will not seek re-election next fall.
Lawmakers from both parties, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ro Khanna, have called on Feinstein to retire immediately, citing her age and health as reasons for her to step down.
It remains to be seen how this elder abuse allegation will impact Sen. Feinstein’s political career and whether any further legal action will be taken.
