Director addresses controversy over teacher screening bloody horror film to 4th-graders.
Nobody Should Watch “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey”
This isn’t just a moral objection to the gory twist on this beloved children’s character. The truth is, the movie is absolutely terrible. No one ever asked for a slasher version of Winnie the Pooh preying on scantily clad women.
Not only is it poorly made, edited, and acted, but it has also been poorly received, except for a brief moment of viral attention when it was first revealed. It’s a sad reflection of the creatively bankrupt state of Hollywood that a sequel has even been greenlit.
Let me reiterate: No one should subject themselves to this garbage.
This film is not for people with functioning brains, those who value their time, those who cherish their memories of Winnie the Pooh, or those who appreciate well-crafted horror cinema.
And without a doubt, it is absolutely not suitable for children.
Now, imagine the shock and outrage from students and parents alike when a group of fourth-graders in Miami were subjected to this filth.
According to WFOR-TV, The Academy of Innovative Education, a Miami K-12 charter school, is rightfully facing criticism after exposing students to a portion of this horror film.
Michelle Diaz, a parent of fourth-grade twins at the school, revealed that her children were distraught after being “exposed 20 to 30 minutes” to the movie.
The upset mother also claimed that an unnamed math teacher showed the film against the children’s wishes.
This entire situation raises several questions, including one posed by the movie’s director, Rhys Waterfield, when asked about the traumatized fourth-graders.
“It’s insane, isn’t it?” Waterfield expressed in an interview with Variety. ”I think it’s crazy. Because when you watch the film, there’s no way you can mistake it for a children’s film. In the first 10 minutes, crazy things are happening, and the characters look terrifying.”
“They said it went on for 20 to 30 minutes. I don’t know how it lasted that long. I don’t know if the teacher put it on and just left or if the kids tricked them or something.
“Hopefully, we haven’t ruined these kids’ childhoods.”

According to WFOR, Diaz claimed that the students themselves chose the movie.
However, as the director hinted, it becomes abundantly clear very quickly that this is not a film intended for children.
One possible (and terrible) explanation for how this movie slipped through the cracks is that it doesn’t adhere to any recognizable rating. The film is not rated R or NC-17, but rather NR or “not rated.”
But that still doesn’t excuse the gross negligence of this math teacher.
And it certainly doesn’t excuse Waterfield for creating this depraved version of a beloved character.
In this story, there are no real winners, only losers and victims. And the fourth-graders are certainly not the losers in this situation.
