Disney+ Actress Says It’s Time For A Trans Disney Prince, Princess
Margaret Cho, comedian and actress on Disney+, recently advocated for Disney to introduce a transgender Disney Prince and Princess in their children’s movies. Cho’s latest role in the Disney+ movie, “Prom Pact,” features her as a LGBTQ guidance counselor. Cho said, “I would love to see trans characters and different types of people in roles of like Disney Princess, Disney Prince and Disney everything.” She added that this type of representation is important, it’s a move towards the future, and it’s admirable and exciting.
Although “Prom Pact” first aired on Disney Channel with some edits for broadcast, a slightly longer version with more explicit dialogue was later released on Disney+. Despite the inclusivity of the movie, there have been many parental reviews stating that the sexual references are not suitable for children. Some parents feel that the movie pushes left political views and has an excessive feminist rhetoric. Even though many parents might not agree with this movie airing on Disney+, Cho’s advocacy for trans representation is a positive step towards opening doors for representation in mainstream media.
