Disney’s attempt to minimize the impact of leaked Snow White photos backfires.

Disney Sparks Controversy with New Snow White Movie

Disney found itself in the midst of another woke controversy on Friday when leaked images from the upcoming Snow White movie revealed a major change in the cast of characters. The iconic seven dwarves have been largely replaced by actors of different heights and genders, causing a stir among fans.

The photos were initially published by the Daily Mail, prompting Disney to dismiss them as “fake.” However, after the Daily Mail issued a clarification, Disney was forced to backtrack on its initial claim and issue its own clarification.

“The photos are fake and not from our production,” a Disney spokesperson originally alleged to the Daily Beast. “We are currently trying to have the Daily Mail issue a correction.”

Following the Daily Mail’s correction, the spokesperson revised their statement, acknowledging that the photos were indeed from the production but were not official. They claimed there had been a misunderstanding and called for a correction regarding the names of the actors in the photos, some of whom were stand-ins.

One of the notable casting choices in the new Snow White movie is actress Rachel Zegler, a Latina, who portrays the titular princess. This follows Disney’s recent casting of black actress Halle Bailey as the lead in their live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Last year, Disney announced that the dwarves would be replaced by “magical creatures” after actor Peter Dinklage criticized the traditional portrayal of the characters. This decision drew backlash from actors with dwarfism, such as Dylan Postl (also known as Hornswoggle), who argued that it took away job opportunities from their community.

The controversy surrounding the new Snow White movie comes at a time when Disney is facing other challenges. The company recently announced layoffs for 75 employees at Pixar Animation Studios and had previously laid off 7,000 employees in an effort to cut costs.

Despite the controversy, Disney’s upcoming film releases continue to generate excitement among fans. The Little Mermaid, which has already earned $465 million globally, will be available for purchase on Disney+ starting July 25.
