Revealing the Disturbing Truth Behind Big Tech’s ‘Misinformation’ Tracker Partnership
Misinformation Tracker: The Disturbing Truth
Misinformation, a term loaded with significance in 2023, is undeniably a real problem. It is not limited to any particular political ideology, as both the left and the right are guilty of spreading false information. In light of this, a genuine bipartisan effort to combat misinformation would be a wonderful idea.
However, what the world seems to be getting instead is far from wonderful. Microsoft, the tech giant founded by Bill Gates, and a group called “The Trust Project” have collaborated to create a “misinformation” tracker. This initiative, as reported by Fortune, aims to combat misinformation. But considering Microsoft’s questionable practices, such as spying on children and implementing questionable “green” policies, this tracker is off to a dubious start.
On the surface, “The Trust Project” sounds promising. It describes itself as a nonpartisan consortium of news sources dedicated to providing truthful, verified news and information in a context that gives them meaning. They also aim to foster civil exchanges and promote understanding of various viewpoints. Their goal is to build standards of transparency and work with technology platforms to ensure journalism’s commitment to transparency, accuracy, inclusion, and fairness.
How do they achieve this? By applying their “8 Trust Indicators” formula to news stories. These indicators include journalist expertise, type of work, citations and references, methods, locally sourced information, diverse voices, actionable feedback, and best practices.
However, there is a significant issue with “The Trust Project.” Despite claiming to adhere to their own trust indicators, they fail to fully disclose the nature of their funding. It was only when the Washington Examiner investigated that it was revealed that “The Trust Project” received substantial funding from the New Venture Funds (NVF), one of the largest left-leaning dark money groups in the United States. Between 2019 and 2021, NVF directed over $3 million to “The Trust Project.” This revelation raises serious concerns about the organization’s impartiality.
Furthermore, NVF is managed by Arabella Advisors, a group described by Fox News as overseeing America’s largest liberal dark money network. Arabella Advisors has deep connections to billionaire Democrat megadonor George Soros. These affiliations make it clear that “The Trust Project” is not nonpartisan.
Despite these revelations, “The Trust Project” CEO Sally Lehrman denies that their financial ties to NVF would impact their ability to remain nonpartisan. However, the direct link between “The Trust Project” and organizations with leftist ties, including Soros, raises doubts about their claims of impartiality.
It is also worth noting that “The Trust Project” has received funding from Facebook, a platform that is not known for its conservative-friendly policies. This raises further questions about their commitment to nonpartisan news.
In conclusion, the partnership between the “misinformation” tracker and big tech companies is far from what it appears to be. The affiliations and funding sources of “The Trust Project” cast doubt on their claims of nonpartisanship and raise concerns about their true agenda. It is essential to critically evaluate the sources of information and be aware of potential biases in order to make informed news choices.
