New York state Sen. James Skoufis, Democratic National Committee chairman candidate, is calling for Democrats to take the fight to Republican states.

In his platform, obtained by the Hill, Skoufis used anti-elitist rhetoric to argue that he is the best candidate for the job, saying the current heads of the DNC were “inside-the-Beltway elites” who led the party astray. He cast himself as a centrist who could unite the party.

“Working with every DNC member, I will build a Democratic Party organizing machine that competes in every district, invests in our state and local parties, and breaks free from the stranglehold of the elite, insular, out-of-touch D.C. consultant class and self-serving special interest groups,” says his platform.

Skoufis pledged to “dramatically” raise the party’s Red State Fund and “loosen the counterproductive criteria to qualify so states that make hard-fought inroads — such as by winning a key race or breaking a Republican supermajority — don’t suddenly lose the resources they rely on the day after Election Day.”

Other parts of the platform call for an investment into figuring out Democratic losses with young and minority voters. He pledged to boost the salaries of local party leaders.

He also focused a substantial amount of energy on communications.

“We’ll employ and deploy effective, sharp, persuasive communicators and content creators with the rapid response tools and messaging they need to push back on all platforms — from TikTok to Sunday shows. No lie or misstep will go unchallenged. And the new communications shop will no longer cede major swathes of media to Republicans,” said Skoufis.

Skoufis is singing a much different tune than outgoing DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison, who guided the party in a decidedly more progressive direction. He announced he would not be seeking reelection after the Democrats’ electoral debacle on Nov. 5.

Meanwhile, Skoufis has explicitly called on the party to “stop engaging in woke politics.”
