DNC Cuts Ties With Marc Elias
Democratic National Committee Ditches Marc Elias, the Clinton Lawyer with Links to Russia Dossier
The Democratic National Committee has decided to end its association with lawyer Marc Elias, who was responsible for pushing the Steele Dossier that sought to link former President Trump with Russia through false allegations.
Elias has been representing the DNC since 2009 and has had numerous disagreements with the committee, according to sources cited in PunchBowl News. His law firm, Elias Law Group, which he founded in 2021, provides services to several Democratic lawmakers and entities like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, as per the records.
The DNC, in a statement provided by its spokesperson Ammar Moussa, said, “The DNC works with a number of law firms on voting rights litigation, compliance, contracting, and more. The DNC is appreciative of Elias Law Group’s years of work in service of the values we share.”
As per the campaign finance disclosures, between November 2021 and February 2023, the DNC paid over $2 million to Elias Law Group. Since October 2021, the firm has received over $34 million from campaigns and committees, including Democratic leaders like Chuck Schumer, Raphael Warnock, and Mark Kelly.
Elias was the general counsel for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and commissioned the Trump-Russia dossier. Elias hired opposition research firm Fusion GPS, which brought in British ex-spy Christopher Steele in 2016. Steele was offered up to $1 million by the FBI to prove the dossier’s allegations against Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 election. However, he did not receive the money due to a lack of evidence, confirmed FBI supervisory analyst Brian Auten in October 2022.
In the following month, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) requested several written answers from the FBI, including Steele. Then-prosecutor Andrew DeFilippis for John Durham, who was appointed as special counsel to investigate the FBI’s 2016 Russia election interference inquiry, interrogated Elias in May 2022 regarding his role in pushing the collusion narrative.
According to a spokesperson for the Elias Law Group, “Elias Law Group is proud of the work it has done for the DNC. We look forward to continuing to represent the Democratic Party as well as help citizens vote and progressives make change.”
Neither the DNC nor Elias Law Group could be reached for comment as of now.
