DNC labels Trump ‘true speaker’ following McCarthy’s Biden impeachment inquiry threat.
The Democratic National Committee Names Trump the “Real Speaker of the House”
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has taken a strong stance against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s recent suggestion of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s family. In response, the DNC has named former President Donald Trump the “real Speaker of the House.”
“He has made sure the House majority is little more than an arm of his 2024 campaign, and Kevin McCarthy is happy to do his bidding — promising to expunge Trump’s own bipartisan impeachments, and now threatening President Biden with a baseless impeachment to distract from their lack of any meaningful agenda and Trump’s own significant challenges,”
– DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison
Allegations and Impeachment Inquiry
During an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, McCarthy discussed allegations against Biden and his family regarding their foreign business dealings. McCarthy expressed his belief that these allegations could lead to an impeachment inquiry, stating, “I believe we will follow this all the way to the end, and this is going to rise to an impeachment inquiry, the way the Constitution tells us to do this, and we have to get the answers to these questions.”
McCarthy also accused President Biden of using the “weaponization of government” to benefit his family and prevent Congress from exercising oversight, comparing it to actions taken by Richard Nixon.
DNC Dismisses Threat as Political Stunt
DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison dismissed McCarthy’s threat as “another political stunt intended to help Trump, which House Republicans have already admitted.” Harrison urged Republicans to focus on working with President Biden to provide relief for hardworking families, lower costs, and bring jobs back to America.
Unclassified FBI Form and Pushback
At the center of the allegations against Biden is an unclassified FBI FD-1023 form, which contains claims of the president using his influence to coerce payments from foreign entities. Last week, Sen. Chuck Grassley released a lightly redacted version of the form to the public.
Congressional Democrats have criticized Republicans for pushing these claims, referring to them as “conspiracy theories.” The White House counsel spokesman, Ian Sams, stated that it is “remarkable” how congressional Republicans continue to push debunked claims in their pursuit of President Biden.
